New Guides From PPI on Gas Piping Fusion Announced
Plastics Pipe Institute® has introduced two new gas piping fusion guides
The Plastics Pipe Institute (PPI) recently announced two new technical reports relating to the fusion of plastic pipes for gas applications. A 2017 PPI task group compared various joining procedures with a goal to provide a more uniform joining procedure for regulated gas applications governed by the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 49. ‘TR-49 Generic Electrofusion User Guide for Field Joining of Polyethylene Gas Piping’ is a step-by-step guide incorporating the findings from the PPI task group as well as the latest industry research. The user guide, developed in cooperation with leading gas utilities, includes information on surface preparation, cleaning, and scraping techniques as well as generic industry guidance on electrofusion.
In a separate guide, PPI provides guidance for fusion of the newest gas piping material, polyamide-12 (PA12), which is well suited for high-pressure gas systems. ‘TR-50 Generic Butt Fusion Joining Procedure for Field Joining of Polyamaide-12 (PA12) Pipe’ provides a uniform joining procedure for PA12 piping as well as fusion parameters and visual inspection guides. Both guides will help standardize the procedures related to fusion joining of plastic gas pipes, helping to reduce costs while increasing consistency.
