ASME Approves First UK Pipe Firm for Hydrogen Piping Production
As Hydrogen pipelines gain popularity, pipeline firms look to position themselves to take advantage of this growing trend. Based in the UK, LIBERTY Pipe Hartlepool, becomes the first pipeline firm in the UK to be approved by the ASME to produce piping for hydrogen transportation and storage. LIBERTY's 42 inch submerged arc welded (SAW) pipe was tested according to ASTM E1681 linear elastic fracture mechanics, as defined within the ASME B31.12 design code. The idea of Net Zero emissions is becoming increasingly popular and many firms and goverments are committed to this ambitious goal. As a result of net zero commitments demand for SAW line pipe is expected to rise significantly in the next 20 years. In fact one of the goals of the UK's hydrogen strategy is to achieve 10GW of low carbon hydrogen production capacity by 2030, which aims to decrease industrial emissions and provide versatile energy for power, transport, and heat.
